About – UWC

A national association that represents the business community’s interests on unemployment and workers’ compensation public policy issues.

Established in 1933, UWC – Strategic Services on Unemployment & Workers’ Compensation (UWC) is the only broad-based, country-wide association exclusively devoted to representing the interests of the business community on unemployment insurance and workers’ compensation (WC) public policy issues. UWC members are employers of all sizes and industries; national and state business associations; third party administrators; insurance carriers; accounting and law firms; and all who share an interest in maintaining sound, cost-effective UI and WC systems. Government agencies are eligible for associate membership or may obtain UWC publications by subscription.

UWC is the voice of business on issues affecting UI and WC in Congress, the U.S. Department of Labor and other federal agencies, national forums dealing with UI and WC issues, and the news media. UWC also serves as an information resource for the business community, state government officials, and private sector organizations concerned about the UI and WC programs.

UWC’s National Foundation for Unemployment Compensation & Workers’ Compensation conducts research and publishes information on state UI and WC programs, including the annual Highlights of State Unemployment Compensation Laws book – the “bible” of state UI reference works. The Foundation sponsors the annual National Unemployment Insurance Issues Conference, the only national business conference focusing on current issues in public policy and best practices relating to the UI system.

UWC is governed by a Board of Directors drawn from our members, and our National Foundation is governed by a Board of Trustees. UWC maintains a task force which develops the program for our annual conference.
